It is normal for babies to sometimes get diaper or nappy rash. It can be caused by prolonged contact of baby’s skin with urine or faeces, not cleaning or changing the diaper often enough, irritation reaction to fragranced baby wipes or wipes containing alcohol or fungal infection.
Treatment for diaper rash
Diaper rash can be treated and prevented by following some simple advice such as applying a barrier cream to protect the skin, frequent change of dirty diapers and cleaning your baby’s skin with water or fragrance-free and alcohol-free baby wipes.
If it is persistent, topical treatment will be prescribed to reduce the redness and soreness of the diaper rash. If there is fungal infection, antifungal cream will be prescribed as well.
